Insert Bearings

Insert bearings and wide inner ring bearings are used for mounting on shafts without the need for shoulders or adapters. The bearing is locked in place through setscrews or a locking collar. UC Style Insert Bearings have an inner ring that extends on both sides of the bearing and SB Style Insert Bearings extend on one side. Both designs however are intended to provide extra shaft support. Sometimes insert bearings are simply standard deep groove radial bearings that fit into a housing and these bearings may be purchased as stand-alone products to use as replacements. While standard radial ball bearings must be pressed into a machined shaft, using special installation tools, insert bearings can be slip fit directly onto the shaft.

The Boca Bearing Company offers a wide assortment of miniature and standard size insert bearings in various combinations of materials. Stainless steel and ceramic hybrid insert bearings are available for washdown conditions, high temperature and food grade applications.

  • SA Series

SA Series insert bearings pair a spherical outer ring and one-side-extended inner ring with an eccentric (cam) locking collar in place of a setscrew. The eccentric collar tightens automatically as the shaft rotates, allowing for fast installation without special tools while maintaining the self-aligning benefit of a spherical OD. SA Series bearings are available in 52100 chrome steel and ceramic hybrid (chrome steel races with Si3N4 ceramic balls) configurations, the latter offering reduced friction, higher speed capability, and reduced lubrication needs. SA bearings are a popular choice in agricultural, material handling, and general industrial equipment where quick collar-lock installation is preferred over setscrew mounting.

  • SB Series

SB Series insert bearings feature a spherical outer ring with the inner ring extended on one side, offering a narrower profile than UC while still providing solid extra shaft support. Setscrew-locked and slip-fit for mounting directly onto a shaft without pressing or shoulders, SB bearings are available in 52100 chrome steel, 440C stainless steel, and ceramic hybrid versions with steel or stainless steel races and Si3N4 ceramic balls. Stainless steel SB bearings are ideal for washdown conditions, food and beverage processing, and other corrosive or high-humidity environments, while ceramic hybrid options deliver reduced friction, higher achievable speeds, and reduced lubrication requirements for demanding or high-temperature applications. SB bearings are a common choice wherever a compact, self-aligning insert bearing is needed in pillow block or flange-mounted housings across industrial, agricultural, and machinery applications.

  • UC Series

UC Series insert bearings feature a spherical outer ring with the inner ring extended on both sides of the bearing, providing balanced, extra-wide shaft support. Like all insert bearings, they slip-fit directly onto a shaft — eliminating the need for pressing, shaft shoulders, or special installation tools — and lock in place with a setscrew. UC Series bearings are available in 52100 chrome steel, 440C stainless steel, and ceramic hybrid configurations (chrome steel or stainless steel races paired with Si3N4 silicon nitride ceramic balls). Chrome steel offers superior hardness and durability for demanding industrial use; 440C stainless steel resists corrosion from fresh water, steam, crude oil, gasoline, and other common contaminants, making it well suited to washdown, food-grade, and high-humidity environments. Ceramic hybrid UC bearings add the benefits of Si3N4 balls — non-porous, non-magnetic, non-corrosive, lighter and harder than steel — for applications demanding high loads, high speeds, or extreme temperatures, with longer service life and minimal lubrication needs. Common uses include conveyors, agricultural equipment, pumps, fans, and general industrial machinery requiring reliable, easy-to-install shaft support.

  • CSA Series

CSA Series insert bearings combine a cylindrical outer ring with a narrow inner ring extended on one side and an eccentric locking collar, making them a light-duty, cylindrical-OD counterpart to SA. Like SA, the cam collar self-tightens with shaft rotation for quick, tool-free installation. CSA Series bearings are available in chrome steel and 440C stainless steel, with stainless offering strong resistance to corrosion from water, steam, gasoline, and other common contaminants — a good fit for washdown or lighter-duty corrosive environments. CSA bearings are commonly used where a straight-bore housing and fast collar-lock mounting are both required.

  • CSB Series

CSB Series insert bearings are the both-sides-extended counterpart to CSA: a cylindrical outer ring with the inner ring extended on both sides of the bearing for additional shaft support, secured with the same self-tightening eccentric locking collar. CSB bearings share CSA's cylindrical-OD, straight-bore housing fit and quick, tool-free cam-collar installation, in the wider inner-ring configuration for applications needing extra stability. Available in chrome steel and stainless steel to match the corrosion-resistance and durability needs of the application.

  • ER Series

ER Series insert bearings use a cylindrical (straight) outer ring rather than a spherical one, designed for mounting into housings with a cylindrical bore instead of a self-aligning spherical seat. The inner ring extends on both sides of the bearing for added shaft support, and the bearing locks onto the shaft via setscrew — slip-fit, with no pressing or special tools required. ER Series bearings are offered in chrome steel, stainless steel, and ceramic hybrid (Si3N4 ball) configurations, giving the same range of corrosion resistance, hardness, and high-speed/high-temperature capability as Boca's spherical-OD insert lines. ER Series bearings are the right choice when a housing calls for a true cylindrical fit rather than self-alignment — common in precision-bored pillow blocks and custom housing designs.
